Shelton
Ranch is one of the premier private land hunting facilities for big
game in Northwest Colorado.
Consisting of approximately 7,000 game-filled acres of private land in
management Area 11 & 211, it also
is permitted for 30,000 acres of BLM in Unit 11.
Situated a short 30 miles northwest of Meeker
and 15 miles south of Maybell, the ranch is located in the path of
the elk winter migration. The terrain
is sage and juniper covered hills with
some high mountain fields in the valleys at about 6400 feet elevation,
rising to 8000 feet with scrub oak and service berry.
Wildlife seen on the ranch include, coyote, bobcat, jackrabbit,
cottontail rabbit, badger, porcupine, eagle, sage grouse, blue grouse as
well as elk, mule deer, antelope, mountain lion and bear.
